Emerald Coast Utilities Authority Expands NGV Fleet

The Pensacola, Fla.-based Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) is adding 34 more compressed natural gas (CNG) refuse trucks to its fleet. The authority will use 18 of the refuse trucks to serve a new service territory in neighboring Santa Rosa County, where the ECUA has acquired the garbage and recycling accounts for approximately 25,000 customers. The authority will use the remaining 16 CNG vehicles to retire a portion its existing fleet of diesel-powered trucks.

Concrete pumpers across the United States are relying on the nation's first truck builder, Autocar Trucks, to build a new generation of concrete pumper trucks to handle the recent surge in major construction activity. The latest U.S. Department of Commerce report (released January 2, 2015) noted strong year-over-year growth across a range of major construction categories demanding concrete, such as Highways & Streets +5.7%, Office +11.3%, and Commercial +14.7%.
Autocar Trucks Named Number One in Service

A nationwide study conducted by the National Business Research Institute declared Autocar Trucks number one in service among the truck OEMs in this study, with 70% of survey respondents agreeing they are satisfied overall with the service they received from Autocar. Autocar's customer satisfaction with service significantly exceeded the results for all the other truck OEMs included in the survey. The survey recorded the opinions of 469 people working in the vocational truck market.
City of Loveland Expects Big Savings with Hydraulic Hybrid Garbage Trucks

The City of Loveland, Colo., recently replaced six of its 16 garbage trucks with hydraulic hybrid models - a move city officials say will mean big savings. Each new truck features a chassis from Indiana-based Autocar and a RunWise hydraulic drive system from Ohio-based Parker Hannifin Corp. As Loveland explains in a press release, the hydraulic drive system uses a simple but high-tech mechanism that stores braking energy, then releases it to accelerate the vehicle to the next stop with much less reliance on the diesel-guzzling engine.
Thompson Sanitation Makes the Switch to Natural Gas

At first glance, Austin residents may not see much different about a Thompson Sanitation truck picking up garbage in Austin. However, when people look closely, they’ll see subtle differences: a large exhaust vent, large white compartment right behind the cab of the truck and a CNG sign on the side of the truck. The vent is coming off a compressed natural gas engine and the white compartment is the CNG fuel tank.

The winner of the Autocar Always Up Scavenger Hunt was announced Monday, May 12, 2014. Tom Parola, of Monterey, California, was drawn as the Grand Prize winner. He and his wife, Gabriella, received a $10,000.00 dream vacation package. The recently married couple plan to visit Hawaii where they will enjoy sunshine, warm sand, and snorkeling. The Always Up Scavenger Hunt took place at the recent Waste Expo in Atlanta, Georgia.

The sad reality is that most of us know someone who has suffered with the uncertainty of illness – but every now and then, you get a chance to make a difference. In December, a story was featured on the radio about a little boy who had battled with brain tumors and was now being granted a wish through the Make A Wish Foundation. A huge fan of cars and trucks, three-year-old Jackson Smith's wish was to go to Disney Land and visit Radiator Springs.

Autocar is adding another CNG-equipped refuse truck to its roster: the class-7 / "baby 8" Xpert ACMD. More US Towns Are Requiring Natural Gas Garbage Fleets

Five years ago, when the Long Island town of Smithtown passed a law requiring its garbage and recycling collectors to ditch their diesel haulers for trucks run on compressed natural gas (CNG), it was seen as a surprising step. At the time, only two of the nations truck builders—Autocar in Indiana and Oklahomas Crane Carrier Company—were making natural gas trash trucks. And virtually all their orders went to towns in Southern California, which had switched to CNG years before.
