Autocar and Heil charge-up Waste Expo with E-ACX RevAMP build
Autocar and Heil will electrify Waste Expo 2023 with the future of refuse truck technology. Their first fully integrated electric refuse truck will be proudly displayed at booth #4747.
The ACX is a proven refuse truck platform and with an electric powertrain, it becomes even more capable. Autocar’s E-ACX is powered by dual electric motors, drawing energy from a Traction battery that is right-sized and integrated into the vehicle to allow Autocar to maximize on battery storage. E-ACX’s dual electric drive delivers torque that will challenge any current Internal Combustion Engine in the refuse space. With the integration of the Full Electric Heil RevAmp body, we have developed a custom engineered vehicle and body package unique to the vocational refuse space..
Dion van Leeve, Autocar’s Vice President of Engineering Commercial Vehicle Advanced Power Train, is especially proud of the truck’s in-house developed electric powertrain. “The E-ACX features a 420 kWh battery pack that is thermally managed for heating and cooling, providing a vehicle platform that performs to its best in relentless operating conditions. We have developed an integrated, severe-duty solution that is relentless and is built to get the toughest jobs done with performance and efficiency.”
The advanced RevAMP automated sideload body from Heil, featuring an electric arm and potent auger-style compactor, is integrated with Autocar's Power of One engineering. This innovative refuse truck design from Autocar is truly revolutionary.
Autocar’s E-ACX and Heil’s RevAMP body's fully integrated electric functions mean no diesel engine rev surges or hydraulic pumps whining at each stop on a refuse truck route. Heil’s automated sideload body complements the low acoustic profile of Autocar’s E-ACX platform by fulfilling all its refuse loading and compacting functions without the operational noise associated with traditional bin cycle hydraulics.
Pat Carroll, President of ESG, is excited about the new design. “The RevAMP is unique as it is the only electric-actuated refuse body that operates smoothly and quietly, completely without hydraulics while on route. By eliminating fossil-fuel based oil systems, the RevAMP delivers significant environmental benefits, cost savings and improved uptime.”
Simplicity equals durability. Autocar’s E-ACX powertrain has fewer moving parts and maintenance complexity than a diesel engine. All the power, none of the noise and zero emissions. Heil’s RevAMP body aligns with a similar design theme – purposeful performance with reduced complexity. Because it’s electro-mechanical instead of hydraulic, maintainers never have to worry about perishing seals and worn hoses spilling hydraulic fluid on the sidewalk or street. Cleaner, smarter, simpler and better.
Autocar prides itself on platform-to-body integration. We hand build and pre-engineer our E-ACX chassis to allow design diversity and enhance body configuration options. Uncompromised integration and customization are the foundations of our Power of One engineering approach. We add first-contact engineering value on the assembly line, using our technical expertise and deep understanding of the ACX platform. Fabricators at our body building partners don’t have to drill and punch the chassis, or trim and kink electrical harnesses, because we get that done right, first time, on the Autocar assembly line.
Recharging an electric vehicle can be unfamiliar and daunting for legacy refuse truck owners and fleet managers. Autocar’s Advanced Powertrain Team, under the leadership of Dion van Leeve, prove that simplicity is power. “E-ACX has an integrated charging system and features a single port for recharging both the truck and body's energy requirements. Recharging an E-ACX is easier and safer, because it only requires one power cable, instead of two.”
Autocar’s E-ACX features an Integrated Smart Display with electrical diagnostics and data rich digital instrumentation, eliminating the need for operators to interpret tiny analogue gauges. Real-time range estimates and battery health are displayed on the move and each time an E-ACX’s is powered-up, it performs a systems health check. Technicians benefit from the E-ACX’s Integrated Smart Display by having touchpoint access to live values for the thermal system, powertrain, battery system and any additional HV accessory components.
Autocar’s E-ACX and Heil’s RevAMP automated sideload body are the future of electric refuse truck technology. And the future is now. Experience it at Waste Expo booth #4747.
